A. Cultural Festival:
Recently, the Students’
Representative Assembly of Covenant Polytechnic, Aba Organized a cultural show
tagged “Igwe’s Cultural Day”. There were various cultural exhibitions among the
students from most states in Nigeria.
Cultural dances, local
News (of various Nigerian Languages), traditional marital rites among other
things also featured during the festival. Other side attractions were the
coronation of the Igwe’s cabinet members and the official investiture of Igwe
and his Lolo. People from all walks of life graced the occasion.
B. Exam
malpractice:
The Authority of
Covenant Polytechnic in conjunction with the Students Representative Assembly
had waged war vigorously against exam malpractice in the institution. Stringent
measures have been taken to forestall exam fraud and few students involved in
such unholy practices were sanctioned accordingly. This is in line with the
Polytechnic’s desire to turn-out graduates who can defend their certificates
when the need arises.
C. Indecent
Dressing:
The management of Covenant
Polytechnic has developed a zero tolerance for indecent dressing among the
students. Consequently the Polytechnic’s para-military (security) outfit,
man-o-war has been mandated to ensure that students dress properly. Such
negative dress styles like show armpit, show back, and all other dresses that
expose the bodies of the female students. Excessive make-ups and low-waist
trousers have been banned completely in the institution. The boys are also
enjoined not to put on saggy trousers, boxers, singlets etc. within and outside the campus.
D. NBTE’S
Final Approval of Covenant Polytechnic:
The Honourable Minister of Education
in conjunction with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) had given
concurrence for the establishment of Covenant Polytechnic, Aba with effect from 7th July,
2010. The Board had also granted accreditation for the following programmes in
the Polytechnic;

Accountancy

ND
Business Administration
Admission into these programmes will commence in ernest in
the 2010/2011 academic session. Consequently, prospective candidates for
admission are encouraged to apply.
Admission forms are obtainable from the Polytechnic
Campuses on payment of a non-refundable fee of four thousand naira (N4000.00)
only.
The polytechnic has two campuses-1 and II. Campus 1 is
located at Plot 168 Aba – Owerri Road, Aba (Opposite Abayi Girls Secondary
School, Aba) while campus II is situated at No. 29 Okpu-Umuobo Road (Opposite
Union Bank) Umungasi, Aba.
E. Valentine
Celebration/Election of Miss & Master Covenant:
The students of Covenant
Polytechnic, Aba
organized valentine bubbles on the 14th of February, 2010 to mark
the “Lovers Day.” It was a day for the students to exhibit their social
talents.
There were activities like dancing
competition, cultural dances, riddles and jokes, comedy and above all, the
election of Miss and Master Covenant. The best couples of the tertiary
institution also emerged during the occasion.
Princess Greg- Inyama emerged as the
Miss Covenant while Ignacio M. became the Master Covenant for the 2009 / 2010
academic session.
F. Clubs
and Associations:
The Polytechnic approved a number of
clubs and associations to enhance the spiritual and social interactions among
the students;
* Covenant
Christian Fellowship is the umbrella Christian Body in the Polytechnic
that co-ordinates religious activities among the students irrespective of
denomination and ethnic background. It is in fact a non-denominational group
that inculcates spiritual discipline in line with Biblical injunctions. Members
of the executive committee of the group include, a president, officers and a
campus pastor. Currently, Bro. Henry Eromosele Odiaka doubles as both the
campus pastor and president of the Fellowship. They have an Almanac to their
credit.
* We
also have Departmental Presidents and officers that oversee the affairs
of the various departments. The departmental presidents are as follows:

Public
Administration - Ugwu Solomon N.
Computer
Science - Anyanwu John
Electrical
/Electronics - Reagan U.
There
are other officers who assist their presidents to actualize the objectives of
their departments.
* Covenant
Theatre Art World is a drama group that has in its fold talented
individuals who have been thrilling the Polytechnic community and indeed the
outside world with exciting displays of their drama clips and comedies. They
have released a video clip titled “Rusted Gold.” It is really thrilling and
fascinating.
* Man-O-War
is a para-military group in the Polytechnic formed to enforce discipline among
students. The existence of man-O-War makes students to imbibe the culture of
obedience to the policies, rules and regulations of the Polytechnic. Man-O-War,
a security outfit on the campus enforces the dress code as stipulated by the
Polytechnic’s Management. Erring students are accordingly sanctioned.
G. Students’
Representative Assembly (SRA) Elections:
The
students’ Representative Assembly (SRA) is the governing body of the students
in the Polytechnic. The Polytechnic for now does not have a full-blown Students
Union Government (SUG). The SRA is the highest organ of the students. Elections
were held and the speaker and other officers of the Assembly were elected in a
free and fair contest. The following persons emerged;

Each department also presented two
elected representatives at each level.
The
SRA embarked upon a bus project for itself through the mobilization of the
students in that direction.
There is also the “Covenant
Ambassadors Forum” which is a group of out-going and out-gone Covenant Polytechnic’s
students. They have also produced a beautiful almanac which will stand the test
of time.
H. Appointment
of HODS:
Heads of Departments
have been appointed to man the affairs of the various departments for the
current academic session. The appointments were sequel to the approval given by
the Chairman Governing Council of the Polytechnic; Deacon Iyke Nwoke.

I. Ultra-Modern
Studio for On-Line Lectures:
The Management of
the polytechnic has made a giant stride by establishing an ultra-modern studio
where lectures will be delivered on line to registered students in various
locations across the country and beyond. Proficient Lecturers have been
recruited for this purpose. This is an innovation in the education sector. The
studio has been equipped with modern and up-to-date electronic devices to
enhance the smooth operations of the project.
